
After some painful time in Aesprite, I finally pieced together some new tileset components for Nori! I'm still using 8x8 as a basic grid, but have decided on jumping to 16x16 as a general tile size, just for a little more readability. Nori herself still needs an overhaul, and I think I'll bump her to 16x24 instead of the 16x16 she is now. Maybe as tall as 16x28, but I like a nice even 8px cutoff.
Having the Gameboy palette limited my ability to express still, but in some ways, it helps, because I have to rely on readability more than expression. For example, creating the little dark marks underneath the grassy top probably weren't fully necessary, but I think they help contrast the background a bit, despite both using the same shade of green. The grass feels like it is in "front" of the background, so I feel it was successful.
